Drawn to Writing.
I know not how –
It simply was,
I was ‘drawn to writing’,
I believe,
A way to allow what was within
To come out and put it on the table.
A way to process life unfolding,
A way to share what, to me,
Seemed to be given –
A surety that became my foundational truth.
And so I cannot pin down
What the next will be –
I respond to a given thought
A glimpse of beauty
A tearing of the human heart
A revelation through pondering –
The wonder of life in all it’s subtleties
The gems hidden in Scripture
A touching moment
A seasonal reality
A thought prompted by another --
The more I pay attention
The more I write
The more I write
The more I pay attention
And so here I am writing.
Even now
Not many know I write a lot.
So in a sense this blog will be a happy ‘coming out’.
My first encouragement to write
came when I, reporter like, wrote a piece about a very happy
youth group retreat in a Parish Bulletin. Such fun! It just tumbled out of me,
light hearted, quirky and quickly ready to share.
I didn’t look for accolades for it gave me joy of the very satisfying
In the very act of writing….and that was enough.
The passing comment that I hold dear in my heart to this day was given
by my boss Pastor who said:
‘You should write more.’ No qualification. A few simple words lifted my heart.
I think he is my silent companion without my necessarily knowing it.
Thank you Pastor Gary!
In these past years I have come to realise that writing can be therapeutic for sure,
but there is writing that is also meant to be shared. May be my writing starts to document
in poetry and some prose - some of my revelations through life.
My writing also may attract like-minded souls, or whet the appetite for the particular flavour of
Your own contemplation of life.
Both of these would warm my heart!
